Fred King, PT, PhD, RSMT, CCI
Fred was born in Osaka, Japan where he lived until the age of 5. His father was then transferred back to Schofield Barracks Army Base in Oahu, Hawaii where he lived until left for the Mainland to attend college at Pacific Union College. He then went on to Loma Linda University where he obtained his degree in Physical Therapy in 1969. During his internship, he met his wife, Karen, at Glendale Adventist Medical Center where she was completing her last year in Nursing. They were married in 1970 and have two offspring. His son is now living in Las Vegas and their daughter is a staff member at Dos Caminos working as a Physical Therapist. He has worked in numerous different settings as pertains to Physical Therapy from Formal Rehab, Skilled Nursing, Home Health, Burn Center, Acute Care Hospitals, and Outpatient Therapy Centers. In 1984 he completed his Fellowship Program in Arthritis with UCLA and Rancho Amigos Hospital. In 1986 he became a Registered Sports Medicine Therapist with the American Sports Medicine Association. In 1987 he completed his Masters in Healthcare Management and in 1997 received his Doctorate in Healthcare Administration. In 2005, he received his Certification as a clinical instructor.
He was the first director of Physical Therapy at Pleasant Valley Hospital at the time of its opening on July 29, 1974. In 1978 the Hospital Board of Directors came to Fred and Jerry Harris to take over the contract. This was the start of Harris and King Health Services, Inc. which became an 18 year association with the Hospital. During their association with the hospital, they developed several new programs for the Hospital including but not limited to: Multidisciplinary Cardiac Rehab Program, Sleep Diagnostics Lab, Sports Medicine Program, Stroke and Cardiac Support Program. Fred and his team of Therapists covered the two local high school’s football team and athletic events. You would have surely seen him at the sideline with his team every Friday night from 1975 until 1997. He organized the local Physicians for Sports Physical, event coverage, lectures circuit, treatments, etc.
He was also a faculty member at Professional Skills Institute in Santa Barbara for several years as their instructor for Advanced Orthopedics. His Clinic is affiliated with several Universities as an Internship sites for both the Physical Therapy Assistant and Doctorate of Physical Therapy programs. Fred is a hands-on CEO in that he enjoys being in the back room treating along side his staff. He enjoys listening to patients with their life’s story and talking to them about his. All his Professional Staff are members of the American Physical therapy Association.
Fred started Dos Caminos Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab back in 1991 after leaving Pleasant Valley Hospital due to inability to reach a mutual satisfactory contract language.
